The Charcuterie Ice Platter Every Outdoor Celebration Needs https://www.tasteofhome.com/article/charcuterie-ice-platter/ Tue, 08 Aug 2023 12:53:46 +0000 https://www.tasteofhome.com/?p=1904897 Because no one likes warm meats and cheeses that have been sitting out all day. Here's why we love this versatile ice platter for every gathering.

Charcuterie Ice Platter

If there’s one thing most Taste of Home editors have in common, it’s our love for charcuterie boards. I mean, our culinary experts and editors even created a book all about Boards, Platters & Morethat’s how deep our love goes.

But despite our love for all things cheese boards, there’s one hiccup that’s hard to avoid: How do you keep a charcuterie board chilled during the entire party? After spending precious money on artisan meats and cheeses to craft your board, the last thing you want is for the gouda to be too warm to serve.

The answer to this common problem? A charcuterie ice platter with a separate compartment for ice so meats, cheeses and baked goods never go past their prime.

What is a charcuterie ice platter?

Charcuterie Ice Platter before and after filling

A charcuterie ice platter is a two-piece enclosed tray complete with an interior compartment for serving cheese board accoutrements over ice. Plus, it comes with three tongs for guests to pick their goodies without getting their fingers all over your beautiful creation. The enclosed tray is clear and BPA-free, while a rectangular interior tray, which sits directly over ice, is easily removable to prep your appetizer before transporting it to the party.

When it’s time to serve, simply pour ice in the bottom, place the rectangular serving tray on top and close the platter lid to keep it away from the elements until guests are ready to dive in. Pro tip: Reviewers note that small ice cubes are ideal to ensure the rectangular tray fits on top.

Why I Love It

Charcuterie Ice Platter

It’s official: You simply can’t have a summer charcuterie board without this ice platter that keeps food concealed from bugs, heat and beyond. Even if you prefer to order your cheese board, it still needs protection from the summer heat whether you’re hosting a barbecue or simply relaxing outside on the patio.

What I especially love about this ice platter is its versatility. At-home sushi platter night? Serving cake or baked goods at an outdoor birthday party? Every food creation needs an easy-to-transport ice platter to keep treats perfectly chilled all day long. After all, who likes warm meats and cheeses that have been sitting out for too long?

But Don’t Take My Word For It!

Five-star reviewer, Rosemary Hartnett, says, “I like that you can put ice in the bottom and fill the tray with cold food and it will stay cold longer. It is great for a party outside because you can close the lid to keep bugs out and people can see what is inside. After purchasing the first one and using it, I bought three more. Love it!”
“Great quality,” shares verified Amazon reviewer, Lexi H. “If you put the ice in the bottom, they have to be very small cubes. Otherwise, it works great. I used this for meats and cheeses and it kept them chilled and covered at the same time during a hot summer party outside. I had many people ask me about it.”

Where to Buy a Charcuterie Ice Platter

Charcuterie Ice Platter

Score this genius charcuterie ice platter (or two) on Amazon for $40 before your next outdoor party. With ample room for keeping entire charcuterie creations, baked goods or appetizers chilled for hours, it’s one of the best finds for hosting an outdoor baby shower, bridal shower or tailgate. Cherries Jubilee Tips

Why is it called cherries jubilee?

Cherries jubilee is said to have been created as a tribute to Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebration in the late 1800s.

What kind of cherry brandy should you use to make cherries jubilee?

This cherry dessert is traditionally made with kirschwasser, also known as kirsch. It's a clear brandy distilled from fermented cherries. If you enjoy brandy cocktails, cherries jubilee is likely a dessert you'll love, too.

Can you make cherries jubilee without brandy?

Cherries jubilee can be made without alcohol by substituting cherry or apple juice for the brandy.

How do you flambé cherries jubilee?

To flambé, first turn off the heat or remove the pan from the stovetop to a heatproof surface. Stir in the alcohol and quickly ignite using a long match or long-reach lighter. Allow the flame to burn off on its own. Keep the pan lid nearby in case you need to put the flame out quickly by topping with the lid.

Do you have to flambé cherries jubilee?

Although flambéing cherries jubilee does make it feel special, you don't have to light it on fire to categorize the recipe as a romantic dessert. Simply add the brandy and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes to remove some of the alcohol flavor, because flaming the alcohol leaves behind subtle notes of the cherry brandy without the strong alcohol taste. It also adds flavor from caramelization.

Eggplant Caprese is a wonderful way to showcase fresh produce including tomatoes, eggplant and basil. During the summer when tomatoes are at the most delicious, I love to create new recipes to eat as many tomatoes as possible! This recipe is so tasty that my family enjoys eating it in every season. You don't need to peel the eggplant. The peel adds some texture and nutrients, and it helps holds the form a little better. It's a taste preference. Change it up and add sliced mushrooms in addition to or instead of the spinach. —Stacy Corday, Waxhaw, NC

Carrot Hummus Tips

How can you make carrot hummus your own?

Smoked paprika will give your carrot hummus some sweet and smoky flavor, whether you mix it in or sprinkle it on top. After preparing the hummus, you could also consider stirring in minced fresh parsley or thyme.

What other toppings can you put on carrot hummus?

Toasted pumpkin seeds or pepitas would be delicious, and chopped, toasted walnuts would lend a bit of richness. For a juicy bite along with a snappy crunch, pomegranate arils look like little gems atop a fresh bowl of hummus. Don’t be intimidated: It’s actually easy to learn how to remove pomegranate seeds.

What else can you serve with carrot hummus?

For a sweet surprise, serve the hummus with cinnamon-spice pita chips. I also love crackers, pita bread, and fresh raw veggies with carrot hummus. You can also turn carrot hummus into a layered dip or spread it on bread to make a sandwich. Check out other recipes with hummus to find other ways to use the savory spread.

How long will carrot hummus last?

The carrot hummus will stay fresh for 5 to 7 days in an airtight container in the fridge, though it’s unlikely to stick around that long. If you liked this recipe, try more of our hummus recipes.

Pina Colada Pie Tips

Can you use fresh pineapple instead of canned to make pina colada pie?

Sure! Since this recipe calls for crushed pineapple, we suggest adding fresh pineapple chunks to your food processor or blender. Pulse for a few seconds at a time until you’re left with small, even pieces.

What other kinds of crust can you use as the base for pina colada pie?

This pina colada pie recipe calls for a graham cracker crust, but you can use any crust you like! A shortbread crust or pecan cookie crust would be delicious. And for a healthier take, consider using finely chopped macadamia nuts or cashews as the base. Satisfy your sweet tooth with more recipes that start with a cookie crust.

Can you make pina colada pie ahead of time?

Yes! In fact, it’s a necessary step in the recipe. Pina colada pie needs several hours to chill. Feel free to make it several hours, if not a whole day, in advance.

How can you keep copycat KFC coleslaw from being watery?

It is completely normal for the cabbage to release water when mixed with the other ingredients in this recipe. This helps contribute to the dressing, and evenly coats the coleslaw. If you don't like so much liquid, you can easily drain it off before serving. Better yet, serve this coleslaw with a slotted spoon!

What can you serve with copycat KFC coleslaw?

Of course, fried chicken and other copycat KFC recipes come to mind! However, this copycat KFC coleslaw recipe is versatile: It can be served with a fish fry, on top a pulled pork sandwich or as your new favorite side dish at a picnic.
