Everyone loves a summery BLT, so who could say no to this ultra-stacked sandwich in dip form? Our recipe for BLT dip combines the classic BLT ingredients with the ease and convenience of an appetizer dip. Smooth, creamy and loaded with bacon and tomatoes, our BLT dip recipe is a crowd-pleaser for a party, tailgate or potluck. Finish it off with green onions, extra bacon and plump tomatoes, and serve it chilled with a plethora of chips.

Ingredients for BLT Dip

  • Sour cream: We use thick and tangy sour cream as the base of the dip. It pairs beautifully with the other ingredients and isn’t too dense and rich (like cream cheese, another common dip base).
  • Mayonnaise: The mayonnaise glues everything together in a BLT, so we had to add that element to our BLT dip recipe.
  • Bacon: Go for one of the best bacon brands as tested by our Test Kitchen pros. Not sure how to cook it? We got you! Learn how to cook bacon in the oven or on the stovetop with our helpful guide.
  • Tomato: After chopping the tomatoes, place them on paper towels to draw out excess water so they don’t make the dip too liquid-y.
  • Green onions: We sub out a BLT’s standard lettuce for sliced green onions.

Directions

Step 1: Mix and chill

In a large bowl, stir together the sour cream, mayonnaise, bacon, tomatoes and green onions. Refrigerate the dip until you’re ready to serve.

Step 2: Garnish

Just before serving, sprinkle on the extra bacon and green onions if desired. Serve the dip with crackers or chips.

Recipe Variations

  • Top with shredded lettuce: A BLT typically comes standard with lettuce (that’s the L in “BLT”!). Top this BLT dip with crunchy, shredded lettuce to stay true to its name.
  • Add extra seasoning: Sprinkle ranch seasoning into the sour cream before assembling. You’ll add a ton of extra flavor from just this simple step.
  • Sprinkle with shredded cheese: Anyone who has ever indulged in a BLTC (bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheese) knows how perfectly cheese pairs with the classic stack. Garnish this BLT dip with shredded cheese to emulate the BLTC.

How to Store BLT Dip

To store this BLT dip, cover the bowl with storage wrap, and keep in the fridge for up to three days. You can make the dip a day in advance, but remember to store any leftovers for only up to two days.

Can I substitute the sour cream with something else?

Yes, you can use Greek yogurt as a substitute for sour cream if you prefer. Greek yogurt will provide a similar tanginess and thick texture of sour cream.

How should I serve this BLT dip?

Serve this BLT dip with crackers, crusty sourdough bread or vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, celery sticks and baby tomatoes. We also love it with all kinds of chips: potato, corn, pita or tortilla chips. Pro tip: Our Test Kitchen cooks found that Tostito’s is the best tortilla chip brand for dipping!
