Our garlic dip is a recipe made by garlic lovers, for garlic lovers. Three cloves of garlic are minced and mixed into a rich, creamy dip that’s easy to dunk into again and again with hard pretzels, crispy vegetables and crunchy chips. No one has to know it took just five minutes and a few ingredients to whip up!
Garlic Dip Ingredients
- Cream cheese: Our Test Kitchen pros found the best cream cheese brands to cook and bake with, and there were a few clear winners!
- Sour cream: We recommend leaving the sour cream out at room temperature for 30 minutes before using so it softens a bit and is easier to whip up.
- Worcestershire sauce: If you don’t have Worcestershire, substitute with soy sauce and a squeeze of lemon.
- Garlic: There are a few different methods on how to mince garlic. Go with the technique you’re most comfortable with. Just make sure to peel the garlic first!
Directions
Step 1: Create the dip
In a small bowl, use a hand mixer to beat together the cream cheese, sour cream, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt and pepper until well blended.
Editor’s Tip: Chill the garlic dip in the fridge for 30 minutes if you like a cool dip.
Step 2: Platter up, and serve
If desired, transfer the garlic dip to a clean bowl for a finished look. Serve alongside crunchy vegetables, chips or pretzels.
Recipe Variations
- Sprinkle in herbs: Freshen up this dip with minced chives and parsley. These herbs also add a lovely pop of vibrant green.
- Deepen the garlic flavor: Roasting garlic caramelizes the cloves, creating a complex, sweet-yet-savory flavor profile that would add a beautiful dimension to this dip.
- Add chopped pickles: Chop up a few tablespoons of your favorite pickles, and fold them into the dip. We love how pickles add a bright acidity.
- Grate in lemon zest: Brighten this garlic dip with a quick zest of lemon. Make sure you know how to zest a lemon properly so you’re not getting in the bitter pith!
- Kick up the spice: Garlic’s pungency can be considered spicy to some. Before adding in crushed red pepper flakes, hot sauce or cayenne pepper, taste the garlic dip for its spice level.
How to Store Garlic Dip
If you have any leftover garlic dip, store it in an airtight container for up to three days. You can keep the garlic dip in the bowl with storage wrap over it, but the garlic smell might permeate in your fridge.
Garlic Dip Tips
How do I make the garlic less potent?
Soak the minced garlic in lemon juice in a bowl for 30 minutes to make the garlicky kick less potent (you’ll need enough lemon juice to cover the minced garlic). Once the 30 minutes are up, strain the minced garlic from the lemon juice, and discard the lemon juice. Now you can get started on making the garlic dip recipe.
What should I serve with garlic dip?
We recommend serving garlic dip with fresh vegetables. Carrot sticks, sliced bell peppers, celery sticks, and grape tomatoes all work perfectly. We also love hard pretzels with this dip, and salty potato chips and pita chips would be delicious, too!
