Pickle lovers, get ready to meet your favorite new dip! This quick and delicious pickle recipe combines rich cream cheese, tangy sour cream and crunchy dill pickles. This dill pickle dip tastes much fresher than a store-bought dip, and it comes together in just 10 minutes.
Like our other favorite dip recipes, this dip is ready for all your crunchy and crispy chips, pretzels, crackers and veggies. And if you end up with leftover pickle dip, you can use it as a spread for bagels, sandwiches and burgers. Alas, this dip is so tangy and refreshing, leftovers are usually out of the question!
Dill Pickle Dip Ingredients
- Dill pickles: Pickle juice adds flavor to this creamy dip, and chopped pickles provide the sharp, salty acidity and fabulous crunch.
- Cream cheese: This spreadable cheese forms the creamy base of this dill pickle dip recipe. It’s much easier to mix softened cream cheese, so let the package stand at room temperature for 10 to 15 minutes before using. If you’re in a rush, check out these other ways to soften cream cheese.
- Sour cream: Cream cheese is pretty thick, so it needs to be thinned out to create a scoopable dip. Sour cream does the trick nicely while adding a complementary tang. Greek yogurt can be used as a substitute for sour cream here, but note that it’s even tangier than sour cream!
- Garlic pepper blend:Â This store-bought seasoning blend usually contains garlic powder, black pepper and other seasonings, like salt, sugar, paprika, parsley or onion powder.
Directions
Step 1: Beat the cream cheese
In a small bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, sour cream and pickle juice until smooth.
Editor’s Tip: You can mix the ingredients by hand with a whisk, but a hand mixer will create a smoother mixture.
Step 2: Fold in the chopped pickles
Stir in the pickles and garlic pepper blend. Serve immediately, or refrigerate for up to four hours. Serve dill pickle dip with chips, pretzels, fresh veggies and your other fave vessels for dip!
Editor’s Tip: You can serve the dip right away, but we recommend chilling it if you have the time. Even an hour in the fridge will help the flavors meld together. Cover the bowl, and let it sit in the fridge until you’re ready to serve.
Recipe Variations
- Garnish with extra pickles: To create a photo-worthy finish, garnish the dip with additional chopped pickles just before serving.
- Vary the pickles:Â Feel free to switch up the type of pickle you use here. Kosher pickles would be a subtle substitute for dill, while bread and butter pickles would give the dip a mild sweetness.
- Make a spicy dip: Ramp up the heat with spicy pickles, a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or a splash of your favorite hot sauce.
- Make a ranch-flavored dip:Â Substitute a packet of ranch dressing and dip mix for the garlic pepper blend.
- Add a fresh flavor:Â Give the dip a fresh finish with chopped fresh parsley, dill, chives or green onions.
How to Store Dill Pickle Dip
Store dill pickle dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days.
Dill Pickle Dip Tips
What do you serve with dill pickle dip?
There are many ways to serve dill pickle dip. Salty, crispy snacks like ridged chips or pretzels pair particularly well with it, as do crunchy veggies like carrot and celery sticks. You don’t have to serve it as a dip, either. This dip would taste fantastic on a burger or ham sandwich. You can also spread it on flour tortillas to create appetizer pinwheels.
What do you do if dill pickle dip is too thick?
If your dill pickle dip is too thick, loosen it by adding extra pickle juice or water. Add one spoonful of juice at a time, and stir until the liquid is fully incorporated. Keep in mind that the dip will thicken up when it sits in the fridge, so if you make it ahead of time, you may need to adjust the consistency just before serving.
